Gluten Free Smoky Buttermilk Ranch Dressing

I really can't believe I haven't shared this recipe with you yet. Yes, it's hard to believe that I eat salads on occasion, not just desserts. When I am craving salad, I love fresh salad dressing from scratch. Most salad dressings are easier to whip up than you may realize. The freshness and flavor of homemade dressing is unbeatable by the bottled stuff. I found this recipe last year on one of my favorite blogs; Noble Pig. The key addition to this smooth, creamy, buttermilk ranch is a little smoked paprika. The smoked paprika adds such a unique touch to this amazing salad dressing.
Smoky Buttermilk Ranch:
from Noble Pig
2 cloves garlic, pressed
1 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sour cream
2 Tablespoons fresh flat-leaf parsley
2 Tablespoons fresh chives
2 green onions, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
pinch of Salt
In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients except for the buttermilk. Whisk in the buttermilk, cover and refrigerate for at least an hour.
Prepare your favorite greens and top with your homemade smoky buttermilk ranch. Enjoy!!!

  1. This sounds great. I absolutely hate store bought salad dressings. I think they all taste weird and so processed. Besides I look at the ingredients in them and many if not most are non food. I will definintely try this. I make all my own dressings but I have never made a creamy ranch. Thanks for posting.

  2. I love all of Cathy's recipes. I hadn't tried this one yet, but wanted to ... now I do more than ever. I love smoked paprika. I think Cathy's was one of the first blogs where I learned about it. Great job, Brian! Who could resist a fresh salad like that with this dressing?

  3. I love making my own dressings, marinades, and seasoning mixes....this one is going into the recipe box...thank you so much for sharing this sounds great!
    Live Laugh and Enjoy

  4. This looks good...I've never succeeded at making my own dressing, despite the fact that I don't buy dressing at the store because I don't like it. I just do olive oil and lots of avocado. I'd like to try this when I'm having dairy again though.

  5. I love making my own dressings too, its so easy and does taste MUCH better than most anything out a jar. Thanks for sharing this one.

  6. Wow, this looks really good! I've had to make some of my own dressing lately, but they certainly don't look as tasty as this!

  7. I've never heard of smoked paprika. I'll have to look for that. My family loves ranch dressing, and I'm sure they would like this.

  8. Oh that looks good.
    A great looking salad.
    Yum, Yum, Yum.

  9. I needed a good recipe to use up some buttermilk I have in the fridge. This one will be it. This dressing will give me a good excuse to buy some romaine and other salad goodies for the weekend. We may be snowed in again and fresh food sounds ideal.

  10. Yum, I could use a good salad right about now! Looks good!

  11. What a tasty looking blog! (Ahem -- not that I would eat the blog of course.)

    Thanks for the recipes!
